The Second Issue of the Qatari Riyal was introduced in two stages.

The First Stage included the One-Hundred Riyal Banknote and was put to circulation on 15 May 1981.

The Second Stage included all the remaining denominations of QR banknotes and was put to circulation on 25 July 1981.

 

Currency: The Qatari Riyal (QR), Second Issue.

Issuer: Qatar Monetary Agency

Exchange Rate Regime: Linked to SDRs theoretically, and to the USD practically, until the end of the period of its circulation, i.e., 19 June 1996.

Exchange Rate: QR 4.7619/SDR, with a margin of ± 7.25%

Period of circulation: 25 July1981 – 19 June 1996.

Currency denominations: Five-Hundred Riyals, One-Hundred Riyals[1], Fifty Riyals, Ten Riyals, Five Riyals, and One Riyal.

Coin denominations:  Fifty Dirhams, Twenty-Five Dirhams,  Ten Dirhams,  and Five Dirhams (100 Dirhams = One QR).

Deadline of cancellation: 18 September 2006.
