Licensing Department

Licensing Department is responsible for issuing licenses to financial institutions to operate in the State of Qatar. Department evaluate, study and process applications to ensure that the applicants meet all the key requirements. Department ensures that the various activities requested by the Financial Institutions to perform are in line with the law & regulations and also according to the public interest requirements and the national economy need.

Banking licensing section is responsible for licensing the following types of financial institutions: (conventional banks, Islamic banks, special types of banks, banks representative offices, investment funds)

The section primary tasks is examining, studying and processing the frequent requests of banks including new licensing applications, renewal of existing banking licenses, expansion of banks inside and outside Qatar, major shareholder, board members and senior management appointment requests, all requests related to General Assemblies and Agendas, revoking /cancelation of license of existing banks.

Fintech and other financial institutions licensing section is the section responsible for licensing the following types of financial institutions including: (financial Technology companies, investment companies, investment representative office, exchange houses, finance-consulting companies)

The section primary tasks is examining, studying and processing a lot of requests including new licensing applications, renewal of existing licensed Fintech and other Financial institutions, expansion of financial inside and outside Qatar, major shareholder, board members and senior management appointment requests, all requests related to General Assemblies and Agendas, revoking /cancelation of license of existing Fintech and other Financial institutions.

Insurance licensing section is responsible for licensing the following types of financial institutions: (insurance and reinsurance companies, insurance and reinsurance brokers, insurance representative, insurance advisory, loss adjuster and surveyor, actuaries, insurance administration company).

The section primary tasks is examining, studying and processing a lot of requests including new licensing applications, renewal of existing insurance companies and insurance support services companies, expansion of financial inside and outside Qatar, major shareholder, board members and senior management appointment requests, all requests related to General Assemblies and Agendas, revoking /cancelation of license of existing insurance companies and insurance support services companies.
